The Opportunity
A 45-bed pulmonary unit in North Central Florida is adding two staff RNs to its night team on a permanent basis. This is a hands-on clinical role with a 7:1 nurse-to-patient ratio — a caseload that demands real assessments, individualized care planning, and active participation in the interdisciplinary team. You will advocate for patient safety, coordinate across departments, educate patients and families, and manage your caseload with a meaningful degree of clinical autonomy. For an RN looking to build or deepen an acute care foundation, this unit delivers the volume and complexity that matters.
Two openings are available, both on a consistent night schedule — 7p to 7a, twelve-hour shifts. The hours are predictable, and the team environment is collaborative. Candidates must be within commutable distance of Gainesville. The position is not appropriate for candidates living sixty or more minutes from the area unless they are actively in the process of relocating.
Sign On Bonus: $10,000. Relocation assistance is considered on a case-by-case basis. Compensation is competitive based on experience. The benefits package is strong: comprehensive medical coverage with many services at no cost or low copay; dental, vision, life, and disability options; a 401(k) with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of pay based on years of service; an employee stock purchase plan; tuition and education assistance; paid time off and paid family leave; free counseling and mental health resources; and fertility and family building support, among others.
Minimum requirements are one year of RN experience — any clinical setting is considered, including LTAC and home health. An active Florida RN license or approved compact multi-state license is required. Compact license holders have sixty days post-relocation to obtain the Florida license. BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) is required prior to start. NIH Stroke Scale certification and Basic Cardiac Life Support must both be obtained within thirty days of employment start. A nursing diploma or ASN meets the minimum standard; BSN is preferred. This is a staff-level role with no supervisory responsibilities.

The Package
Why Gainesville?
Gainesville sits in North Central Florida and carries a different energy than most Florida cities. It is a university town anchored by the University of Florida, which keeps the city younger, more affordable, and more culturally active than its size would suggest. The food scene is genuine — local restaurants, craft breweries, and a farmers market culture that reflects the area's independent character. Cost of living is still reasonable compared to Tampa, Orlando, or the coastal metros, making it one of the more practical places in the state to build savings while earning well. Neighborhoods range from quiet suburban streets with strong schools to walkable areas near campus and downtown, giving families and young professionals a solid range of options.
For anyone who values the outdoors, Gainesville delivers year-round. Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park sits just south of the city — a massive open grassland where bison roam and the birding is exceptional. The Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers are within easy reach for kayaking, tubing, and swimming in spring-fed water. Cedar Key and the Gulf Coast are roughly ninety minutes west, and both Daytona and St. Augustine are under two hours east. The climate is warm, the pace is manageable, and the geography puts you within striking distance of a lot worth seeing. It is a city built for settling into, not just passing through.
