The Opportunity
Fort Walton Beach is home to a 267-bed acute care hospital running capabilities that most Med-Surg nurses never get close to — open-heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and a Cancer Care Center operating under one roof. That clinical volume matters. It shows up on a resume, it shows up in your skills, and it shapes what doors open next. The unit runs 28 private beds, and the nurse-to-patient ratio can reach 1:6, so this is a role that will push you.
Eight permanent positions are open across two shifts — days and nights, both with rotating weekends. For candidates coming from LTAC or SNF backgrounds, this employer is explicit: that experience qualifies. You do not need acute care on your timeline to be considered here.
Sign On Bonus: $10,000. The benefits package covers medical, dental, vision, behavioral health, and telemedicine. The 401(k) offers 100% employer matching on 3% to 9% of pay, scaling with years of service, along with an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Tuition assistance, student loan support, certification sponsorship, and a partnership with Galen College of Nursing are all included. PTO, paid family leave, and short- and long-term disability round it out. Relocation assistance is evaluated on a case-by-case basis for candidates coming from outside the area.
Requirements are straightforward: one year of RN experience, an active RN license, and BLS certification obtained within 30 days of start. An Associate Degree qualifies; a BSN is preferred. Strong assessment instincts, sound documentation habits, and the ability to keep patients and families informed through a course of treatment will carry a candidate far in this environment.
If this fits where you are right now, apply or reach out directly to set up a confidential conversation. Eight openings on a unit with this kind of clinical footprint will not stay open long.

The Package
Why Fort Walton Beach?
Fort Walton Beach sits along Florida's Emerald Coast, where the Gulf of Mexico meets some of the most recognizable shoreline in the country. The water runs a clear blue-green that draws visitors from across the Southeast — but for the people who actually live here, it's the backdrop to a normal week. The climate is mild through most of the year, which means outdoor living is less of a weekend event and more of a daily reality. Fishing, boating, paddleboarding, and beach access are woven into the fabric of the community. The cost of living is reasonable for a coastal market, and Florida's no-state-income-tax policy is a financial advantage that candidates relocating from other states tend to notice immediately.
The broader Fort Walton Beach and Destin corridor has a genuine community feel without the congestion that comes with larger metro areas. Families are drawn here for solid schools, lower crime rates, and proximity to both outdoor recreation and urban conveniences — a combination that is harder to find than it looks on a map. Destin sits just minutes away and offers a full range of dining, retail, and entertainment options. For anyone weighing a career move that could also be a quality-of-life upgrade, this stretch of the Florida Panhandle tends to be underestimated — and once people land here, they tend to stay.
