    Controller - CPA

    Tampa, Florida Permanent Full-Time, On-site

    The Opportunity

Senior-level finance leaders who want their work to mean something will find this one worth a serious look. A well-established nonprofit health organization in the Tampa Bay area is bringing on a Controller — CPA to serve as the anchor of their accounting operations, reporting directly to the CFO. This is a permanent, full-time position with real organizational weight: full ownership of the accounting function for a $200M multi-entity enterprise, with direct responsibility for the financial integrity of a mission-driven operation spanning multiple states.

One opening. Full-time, on-site in Tampa, Florida. The scope is broad — general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, Medicare cost reports, Form 990 filings, and consolidated financial statements prepared in accordance with GAAP. You will lead the month-end and year-end close processes, serve as the primary external audit liaison, and partner with the CFO on budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and long-range financial planning. This is not a maintenance role. The organization expects its Controller to drive process improvement and lead a high-performing team.

The compensation package here is worth reading carefully. Medical, dental, disability, and life insurance are company-paid — not partially subsidized, fully covered. There is also a company-paid pension plan, along with paid vacation, sick days, and holidays. The team is established, the leadership is accessible, and the finance function carries real influence within the organization. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and an active CPA license. The position requires a minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 to 5 years in a leadership role. Significant nonprofit and/or healthcare accounting experience is required — ideally within a complex organization managing $100M or more across multiple departmentalized cost centers. Strong command of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory compliance is expected. Hands-on experience with Medicare cost reports, Form 990 filings, and external audit management is central to the role.

    Why Tampa?

Tampa sits at the edge of Tampa Bay and delivers the kind of livability that draws professionals in and keeps them. The city has spent the last decade quietly becoming one of the most compelling metros in the Southeast — walkable districts, a genuine waterfront, and a food scene that stretches from the historic character of Ybor City to modern dining along the water. Clearwater Beach, consistently ranked among the country's best, is roughly 35 minutes by car. The broader Tampa Bay region gives residents access to barrier island beaches, freshwater kayaking, state parks, and year-round outdoor life without the premium price tag attached to Florida's more well-known coastal destinations.

The climate is warm most of the year, with mild winters and long stretches of sun that make outdoor routines easy to build and maintain. Florida collects no state income tax, which has a real and measurable impact on take-home pay for senior professionals. Hillsborough County's school system includes strong public magnet programs and well-regarded private options at multiple levels. Commutes across much of the metro remain manageable, and neighborhoods like South Tampa, Hyde Park, and the New Tampa corridor offer family-friendly living across a range of price points. For candidates weighing a relocation, Tampa tends to exceed expectations once people actually get there.
